From Bass to Salmon: Maine’s Premier Fishing Experience

Catch bass, salmon, and other species in Maine's pristine waters.

Smallmouth Bass

Our region is renowned for its incredible smallmouth bass fishing. From mid-May to mid-July, anglers frequently catch and release over 100 bass in a single outing. The average smallie weighs about two pounds, but it’s not uncommon to hook a three- to four-pounder—or even a legendary six-pounder! By September, as the waters cool, the action heats up again, making fall an ideal time for bass fishing in Maine.

Largemouth Bass

Our lakes offer outstanding largemouth bass fishing the entire summer. With fish averaging 2-3 lbs. and some tipping the scales at eight pounds, these waters promise a thrilling challenge for any angler.

Landlocked Salmon

The Long Lake Narrows provide an incredible opportunity to fish for landlocked salmon in early spring.  Trolling with flies or hardware can produce some good action at this time.  However, as the water warms quickly, we encourage people to hire a guide to fish other deeper neighboring lakes that can produce better results.

Other Species

We are fortunate to have several other species that can produce some fishing action, such as pickerel and white perch, which make for excellent eating. We highly recommend that everyone experience our guides filleting white perch and cooking them over an open fire. You will not be disappointed!

Fishing FAQs at Long Lake Camps

At Long Lake Camps, you can fish for Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Landlocked Salmon, Brook Trout, and enjoy fly fishing at Grand Lake Stream.

Fishing action is especially fast and furious from June to July. For the best chances, fish from mid-May to mid-August. While fishing slows down in late August, the "bucket mouths" are often caught at this time. In September, targeting schooling fish can offer some exciting fast action.

  • Smallmouth Bass & Landlocked Salmon: Fish from ice-out until September 30. From October 1 to November 30, it's catch and release only.
  • Grand Lake Stream (Fly Fishing Only): Open from April 1 to September 30. Catch and release from October 1 to October 20.
  • Spring: In-line spinners, crank baits, and spinner baits are effective in the cooler waters.
  • Summer: Slow down your fishing speed and use plastics like grub tails, jigs, worms, and topwater baits.
  • Fall: Be prepared to mix things up with various lures from spinners to plastics to adapt to changing conditions.

Many guests report fast fishing action, especially from June to July. When the bite is on, anglers can catch 100 bass per day or more!

Hiring a guide for at least one day greatly increases your chances of landing that big fish you've always dreamed of. Plus, with over 40 different lakes in the area, you can explore more water while your guide handles the logistics. Enjoy a great shore-side lunch cooked over an open fire, and leave the driving to us!
